Supporting Student Achievement
Our students have the drive to succeed, we help give them the tools.
PEF provides direct private funding support and assists PUSD to obtain competitive government grant awards for efforts to raise student achievement. Since 2007, the Academic Performance Index (API) score for PUSD has risen 51 points.
Early Childhood Program
PEF has helped support PUSD's preschool programs throughout the years through private and public grants.
Coordinated Early Intervention Services
Specialist teachers are now working at all elementary schools helping K-1 students who are struggling to ensure that they are brought up to grade level and able to read by 3rd grade. Initiated with ARRA funds, PEF is helping to sustain programs by administering major private grants.
PEF helps obtain support for teacher training efforts such as Math Pipeline, Teaching American History, Professional Development for Arts Educators and more.
High School Graduation Initiative
PEF assists with a competitive federal grant, one of 29 given that year, for high school reform and dropout prevention efforts and facilitating collaborative efforts with community partners including Learning Works, Flintridge Center, Western Justice Center Foundation and others.
John Muir High School Reinvention
This year saw a 7 percentage point rise in the number of JMHS students passing the California High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE). PEF administers a major three-year grant from the Pasadena Community Foundation to support this work.
College Scholarships and Preparation
PEF works to help students and parents be ready for college through forums such as Admission Matters and also helps to recognize achievement by administering scholarship funds. PUSD graduates are Gates Millenium Scholars, Morehead, and other prestigous scholarship winners.
