Grant Writing

Grant WritingPEF offers technical assistance to the PUSD by coordinating and writing grant applications to government agencies as requested by the PUSD. PEF does not receive remuneration for this service. In recent years grant applications have brought over $5 million annually to PUSD projects. PEF similarly coordinates and submits grant applications to private and corporate foundations. These applications have won grants averaging over $1 million per year for PUSD programs. Some examples of successful government grants include:

  • California Math and Science Partnership - $999,541
    A California Department of Education grant in collaboration with Cal Poly Pomona, the WestEd K-12 Alliance and Pasadena City College for professional development in mathematics for teachers grades 5 through Algebra I, including the work of five math coaches working throughout the District.
  • Loma Alta Healthy Start - $450,000
    This seven-year state grant establishes a Healthy Start Family Center at Loma Alta Elementary School in Altadena, designed to link the students, families and community members with free health and social services.
  • Instructional School Gardens at 18 Schools - $52,500
    This state grant provides $2,500 to $5,000 for each participating school for the materials, teacher training, seeds and plants needed to create, expand or sustain an instructional school gardens. Project partners include the Huntington Gardens and the Pasadena Education Network.
  • Carol M. White Physical Education Program - $308,361
    A U. S. Department of Education grant designed to reinvigorate and sustain the teaching of physical education throughout the District through the SPARK PE teacher training as well as continuing a partnership with Young & Healthy and Cal State LA for the Club Fit program for children in need of health and fitness education.
  • After School Education and Safety - $543,450
    A California Department of Education grant to expand the PasadenaLEARNs after school program to Marshall Fundamental School as well as at McKinley K-8 and Eliot Middle School in partnership with the Pasadena YMCA.
