Rock 4 PEF & Battle of the Bands

“I was blown away at the scale of participation that the
Pasadena Educational Foundation generated and flawlessly managed.  Not a small accomplishment!

The spirit of Rock is not dead . . . yet.”

- Mitch Zelezny Executive Director,
The Music Path - Rock 4 PEF 2016 Partner

Rock 4 PEF is a program that engages our community members and businesses to raise awareness and funds for music education in PUSD schools. It does so through a youth Battle of the Bands music competition that begins online and culminates in a live music festival.

Battle of the Bands

Over 600 families, friends, and music fans came out to watch the inaugural Pasadena Educational Foundation's Rock4PEF Battle of the Bands on September 21, 2014 at Levitt Pavilion. The first stage of the competition was an online voting campaign that received almost 4,000 online votes and included a special panel of music industry judges. 50 local kids and teens from 12 different bands competed to win their chance to play before Brian and Nikki from Silversun Pickups at the Rock4PEF Music Festival.

Bands ranged from a six-member all-girl band, an R&B band with a 10 year-old keyboard player and 7 year-old guitar player, a 5 piece-band with a screaming guitar solo, and a jazz band with 3 acoustic instruments played before 600 fans, friends, and community members.

NBC's About a Boy star, Al Madrigal was our special guest host.
